6th Grade Science Syllabus

Prerequisite: Completion of 5th grade science.

Course Overview:
During the course of the school year, students will be exposed to a variety of science concepts. Some topics more than others will be covered thoroughly. Some topics will just be touched on to prepare for future science courses. Topics in 6th grade science include: characteristics of living organisms, heredity, adaptations, ecosystems and populations, forms of energy (light, waves and sound), changes in matter and changes in earth’s surface.

A - 90-100%
B - 80-89%
C - 70-79%
D - 60-69%
F - Below 60
Grades will be determined by daily debates, notes, section activities, lab or demonstrations, chapter reviews, assessments, chapter binders, and research/group projects.
Late Work Policy:
If a student comes to class without homework from the previous day, they are subject to detention. The detention must be completed the day of no submission of homework or the following day. The student will be assigned additional detentions if homework still does not return to class. After three detentions, a zero will be given for the homework assignment. If the student has an excused absence, they are not subject to detention.
Tutoring:
If you need help during the course of the year, please ask. The counselor has a tutoring service available to students.

- All students are expected to properly address their papers with name, date, period, and title of assignment.
- Communicate with me directly when you need help of any kind. I will be available for homework help. I am here for you!
